"At this point, we took blood samples from Maskhadov's relatives in order to conduct a DNA examination because we want to avoid future allegations that the killed person was actually the terrorist's double," Mr. Shepel stated.
He emphasized that Maskhadov was eliminated as a terrorist, and not as political figure.
Mr. Shepel also revealed that Maskhadov's body would be buried without the announcement of the time or a place of his burial.
The deputy prosecutor general stated that at present investigators are examining data archives contained in Maskhadov's personal computer.
"If we find any information on Beslan, we will pass it to the parliamentary committee. However, we already have evidence of Maskhadov's involvement in the terrorist act in Beslan," Mr. Shepel stated, adding that both Maskhadov and Basaev have been on the National and Interpol search warrant lists since June 2000.
