"Mansarov was killed on Sunday around 10 a.m. on the Pervomayskaya Street in Grozny," he stated.
Mr. Atsaev revealed that the operation had been conducted by soldiers from the Akhmad Kadyrov regiment and operatives from the Chechen president security service. "The militant leader offered resistance during the detention and the operatives had to eliminate him. During the operation, a security service operative was wounded," Mr. Atsaev stated. He also said that the operative had been hospitalized and his life is in no danger.
Mansarov, a native of Tengi-Chu village in the Urus-Martan district of Chechnya, became the so-called Emir of Grozny after the death of Yunadi Turchaev.
"Mansarov is a suspect in organizing terrorist acts including demolition of military vehicles, killing of law enforcement officers, assaults, robberies and killing of innocent people," Mr. Atsaev stressed.
He said that during the search of Mansarov's body, operatives found a handgun and an assault rifle registered in the Interior Ministry database as having belonged to a police officer killed in Argun.
