MOSCOW. March 17 (RIA Novosti) - Energy issues will be discussed during Russia's presidency in G8, said Valery Loshchinin, first deputy foreign minister of Russia. He addressed the Wednesday session of the supervisory development council of the International Institute of Energy Policy and Diplomacy.

"We plan to put energy issues on the agenda during Russia's presidency," the diplomat said, noting that "the energy factor is gaining weight in Russia's foreign policy. Its status as a leading energy power determines the multivectoral nature of Russian diplomatic efforts."

The deputy minister stressed: "The interaction and cooperation of Russia with G8 countries is largely based on the energy interests of Russia and its partners." According to Loshchinin, the country is drafting "a concept of foreign energy policy."

The foreign ministry "upholds above all state interests. At the same time, we are trying to take into account the interests of regions, especially those that have energy reserves or vital facilities of the energy infrastructure. We are also increasing support to the Russian energy business on the world markets."
