FEBRUARY REDUCES RUSSIAN UNEMPLOYMENT

MOSCOW, March 22 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's Federal State Statistical Service, or Rosstat, announced figures for February today.

The overall number of unemployed persons made 6,345,000-8.3 per cent less than for February 2004, but 1.8 per cent above last January's. Officially registered were 2,019,000 unemployed - 20.9 per cent more than in February 2004, and 4.2 per cent above January 2005.

The Rosstat estimated the able-bodied population at 72,100,000 by February's end-51 per cent of the total Russian population. Corporate majors and medium-scale companies accounted for a majority of employees-57.5 per cent of the total (38,100,000) for January last. Another 1,700,000 were combining jobs or working on civil contracts.

February sent real disposable public incomes (i.e. minus compulsory deductions) 5.2 per cent up.

The year's initial two months reduced real incomes by 2.1 per cent, say preliminary calculations. However, the same two months sent average per capita money incomes an impressive 10.5 per cent up.

Public real incomes increased in February, against January, by 19.8 per cent.

Average implicit wages made a monthly 7,541 rubles for February, on preliminary statistics-21.4 per cent more than in February 2004. Real wages added by 7.5 per cent within the same twelve months.

Average implicit wages in health and consumer services made 72 per cent of earnings in manufacturing industries, January 2005. The percentage for educationists was 65, as against a respective 68 and 63 per cent for January 2004.
