MOSCOW, March 23 (RIA Novosti) - The Moscow government and Duma are insulted by the fact that the Warsaw authorities named a square in the Polish capital after Dzhokhar Dudayev, the first president of the so-called independent Ichkeria (Chechnya). A relevant statement of the Moscow authorities was approved at the Wednesday session of the Moscow Duma.

The Moscow government and Duma regard the naming of a Warsaw square after Dzhokhar Dudayev as an unfriendly gesture and open provocation of Warsaw's legislative authorities.

"Moscow considers this act as violation of memory of victims of terrorist attacks in Moscow and other Russian towns. Glorifying an international terrorist leader, the Warsaw authorities encourage bandits to commit other outrageous crimes," reads the statement.

According to the Moscow mayor and deputies, "the decision of the Warsaw authorities contradicts the spirit of global partnership in the fight against international terrorism, which is typical of Russia's relations with the United States, NATO and the European Union."

"We expected Warsaw society to come out against this decision of the city council. We call on the city council to cancel this provocative decision," the statement runs.

"This decision means that the Warsaw authorities are absolutely unaware of Dzhokhar Dudayev's role in the life of Chechen people and are totally indifferent to the real situation in the republic," Chechen President Alu Alkhanov said at a press conference in Moscow commenting on this decision.
