"This morning when we organized the protests, I could not even imagine where it would all lead," Kurmanbek Bakiyev, a leader of the opposition, said standing on an APC in front of the government building.
The government building, including the office of the presidential administration, was earlier seized by the protesters.
Bakiyev intends to get in touch with law-enforcers to discuss cooperation and establish order in the country, he said.
He thanked policemen for putting up no resistance to the seizure of the government building and called them "loyal sons of the people."
According to Bakiyev, the opposition had gone to free one of its leaders, former national security minister Feliks Kulov.
According to the Kabar news agency of Kyrgyzstan, the opposition that broke into the government building has not touched the office of President Askar Akayev yet.
However, the crowd is throwing out documents from the windows of other offices. Papers are scattered all over the place.
According to the agency, parliamentarians have started arriving at the government building.
