This is said in a report of the Russian Foreign Ministry Information and Press Department in connection with the UN Security Council adopting resolution 1590, which sanctions deployment of the UN advance mission in Sudan. This step aims at contributing to the implementation of the peace agreement signed between the government of Sudan and the Sudanese people's liberation movement, and at promoting peace settlement in that country.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said the Security Council ruled that the UNAMIS would comprise up to 10,000 military contingent and 715 civil policemen.
"The mission is instructed to fulfill duties to observe and control the implementation of the Agreement on peace, to render assistance in resolving tasks of national reconciliation, implementing the program to disarm, demobilize and reintegrate former combat operations participants, and to control the observance of human rights," reads the document.
"Moscow welcomes the adoption of this resolution, which is regarded as a result of coordinated actions of the UN Security Council aimed at giving a weighty impetus to the process of restoring peaceful life in Sudan. On our part, we are ready to continue efforts to achieve this goal," says the statement.
