The opus was ordered by the Japanese side, therefore, its premiere will take place in Kobe, Japan, on May 22.
According to Shchedrin, any cello orchestra divisible by 4 can play this opus. Hamlet's Ballad consists of four parts and in Kobe each part will be performed by 250 musicians.
The composer pointed out that the premiere was well organized. He has already received the scheme of placement of all musicians on the stage. In his words, Mstislav Rostropovich and David Geringas promised to participate in the premiere.
