DAMASCUS, April 5 (RIA Novosti's Margarita Kislova) - Jordan calls on Russian companies to join Iraq's economic recovery, official spokesman for the Jordanian Ministry of Planning Mohammed Abu Samaka told RIA Novosti. He attended the opening ceremony of the 2nd international exhibition on Iraq's recovery in Amman.

"Jordan is highly interested in cooperation with Russia and Russian companies in Iraq's recovery. Our kingdom is playing a key role in this process. We have the needed set of programs on the restoration of Iraq's economy, infrastructure and state institutions. Moreover, it is necessary to take into account our geographic positions and the fact that all foreign investments go to Iraq via Jordan," Samaka said.

According to him, Jordan strives for boosting Iraq's economic recovery and proposes its experience to all the interested countries, above all, Russia, for active cooperation in this field.

"Russian companies participating in the exhibition assign priority to the development of Russian-Iraqi business relations. Our countries boast historical friendly relations and Russia has always been ready to help Iraq overcome its hardships," organizers of the Russian part of the exhibition told RIA Novosti.

"The Russian side intends to develop bilateral trade and economic cooperation without intermediaries," RIA Novosti's interlocutor stressed.

All in all, 17 Russian companies from different economic sectors are taking part in the event.

The 2nd international exhibition on Iraq's economic recovery involves over 900 companies from 45 countries. Iraqi statesmen and businessmen participate in the exhibition.

It will be running until April 7.
