EXPERTS: FOREIGN MINISTRY SHOULD COORDINATE RUSSIA'S EUROPEAN POLICY

MOSCOW, April 11 (RIA Novosti) - Russian experts say the Foreign Ministry should be responsible for the country's policy towards Europe.

"One of the main tasks at this stage is to transfer the coordination of Russia's European policy to the Foreign Ministry," Dmitry Suslov, Foreign Defense Policy Council deputy director, said at a news conference.

According to Suslov, the slow development of relations between Russia and the EU is thanks to a lack of experts in this sphere and the absence of a center coordinating their work.

Council Chairman Sergei Karaganov agreed that "in general, the attitude to carrying out the European policy should be changed" and said he was for "actively training specialists in the EU affairs."

According to Karaganov, the Russia lacks the necessary specialists and for this reason "a delayed action bomb has already been placed" in the agreements on the four common spaces. He said this is connected with the EU's desire "to ram a payment into the agreements for trans-Siberian flights and also the idea of a common air space above Europe."

Karaganov believes said these factors pose threats to the Russian economy.

"This implies the destruction of Russian airlines and also a stake driven in the Russian military industry," he said.
