"As we see it, Iran is not to feel frustrated in cutting-edge research and technological achievements. Iran is our neighbor. It's a big country, and it would be counter-productive to impose limitations on such a country as that. Such limitations may bring dire fruit," he said in an interview with the Israeli television.
Russia will insist on Iran giving up uranium enrichment and plans to obtain nuclear cycle technologies. Together with that, Russia will work for Iranian research and economic interests fully reckoned with, said the President.
"Russia is not merely helping Iran to build up its nuclear potential. Our efforts limit to civil-oriented nuclear power industry," he stressed, and went on to point out that Russian efforts proceed under international organizations' close monitoring. The IAEA, for one, has full control of the situation.
"We were to get sure that our partner is not using our contacts for military purposes. For that, we made successful insistence on relevant treaties accordingly amended. As those amendments have it, Russia is entitled to recover depleted nuclear fuel from the Bushehr power plant," added Putin.
