He did not specify just what weapons are being designed, saying only that all those are "long-term prospects".
Presently available war craft are under thorough updating now to improve flying characteristics and armament, and prolong service life.
"The new samples come from far-reaching modernization of planes that are, in themselves, leading-edge weapons," remarked the general.
Russia is maintaining its long-range military aviation at a level the federal Defense Minister has determined. This aviation can cope with any missions that may come up in the current situation, with due account for the latest threats and challenges.
"As part of the nuclear triad, long-range aviation is reliable guarantor of national security. It can also successfully fulfill its missions with conventional arms," added General Khvorov.
A reporter asked him what were long-range craft to do in an upcoming Russian-Chinese military exercise.
The general said the war games are only in blueprints for now, tentatively to start September next.
General Khvorov visited the Russian Army cultural center in Moscow today for an annual reunion of long-range aviation veterans. He greeted the gathering, and said such events as that maintained Air Force traditions and helped to pass veterans' know-how on to young pilots.
