HELSINKI, April 24 (RIA Novosti) According to the results of a public opinion poll conducted in the beginning of April by a Finnish public organization "Karelian Union" and published on Saturday, 57% of the Finnish population would not want to have back Karelian territories annexed by the Soviet Union after World War II.
26% of the Finns support the idea.
The Finns consider the future deterioration of relations with Russia as a result of the return as a major obstacle in the process. 83% of those who support the return of Karelian territories rejected the idea of getting them back in such a way.
Only 5% of respondents called for the return by all means.
The "Karelian Union" unites natives of Karelia who established residence in Finland and their offspring. It numbers about 50,000 members.
