CAIRO, April 27 (RIA Novosti) - A joint statement has been adopted on results of talks between the Egyptian and Russian presidents, Hosni Mubarak and Vladimir Putin. It stresses, in particular, that Russia views Egypt as "an influential and important member of the international community and, in this connection, declares that Egypt is one of the worthy candidates for the post of permanent member of the expanded Security Council of the United Nations". The statement says that Russia and Egypt are in cooperation in the field of preservation and strengthening of international peace and security, nonproliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
Russia and Egypt call for full-scale realization of the Palestinian-Israeli agreements reached at the Sharm al-Sheikh summit on February 8, 2005.
"The sides are convinced that the earliest resumption of talks without preliminary conditions on the Syrian and Lebanese treks would promote the attainment of a comprehensive settlement of the Arab-Israeli conflict, including ending the occupation of all the Arab lands", the statement reads.
Russia and Egypt also express their adherence to the preservation of unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Iraq, support the political process in that country targeting the attainment of national reconciliation and accord.
Russia and Egypt resolutely condemn terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. The sides are in cooperation in the struggle against transnational organized crime, money laundering, illegal traffic of drugs and psychotropic substances and their derivatives.
Russia and Egypt have reaffirmed their desire to build up mutually beneficial trade-economic and scientific-technical cooperation in the field of energy, oil and gas production and transportation, investment cooperation, high technologies. The sides have also agreed to develop their traditional cooperation in the military, military-technical spheres.
