He said so at the joint press conference with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.
Mubarak gave him backing saying that Cairo "places full trust in Russia".
Putin also confirmed that on May 8 Moscow will house a foreign ministerial meeting of the Quartet for the Middle Eastern settlement.
"I agree with President Mubarak that agreements (on the Middle Eastern settlement) reached in Sharm al-Sheikh are to be abided by. This will be in discussion at the meeting of the Quartet of the settlement go-betweens at the foreign ministerial level, due to be held in Moscow on May 8", the Russian president said.
To him, problems of the Middle Eastern settlement, the situation in Iraq and other parts of the world have been discussed at the Russian-Egyptian talks.
"We have reconfirmed the desire for settling the Palestinian-Israeli conflict on the basis of the corresponding resolutions of the UN Security Council, as well as the Roadmap, approved by the Security Council (of the united Nations)", Putin said.
He noted that the Moscow meeting of the Quartet will be attended by its just-appointed special representative for realization of the plan for Israel's withdrawal from the Gaza strip and North Samaria James Wolfensohn.
In turn, the Egyptian president noted that the lack of settlement of the Palestinian problem prompts the spread of influence of extremist organizations in the Middle East.
"With the Palestinian problem unsettled, mankind is doomed to face terrorism", he stressed.
Putin, on the whole, set high store by the results of talks with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and noted that they passed in the atmosphere of sincerity and mutual understanding.
"We spoke of and discussed a wide range of problems, bilateral, regional and international in the broad sense of the word", he said.
Egypt has not been chosen by chance as the first country in the Middle Eastern tour, Putin said.
"The independent and responsible position of Egypt on international and regional problems merits great respect. We have always been interested in the broadening of cooperation with such a promising and influential partner as Egypt", the Russian president said.
