VIENNA, April 28 (RIA Novosti, Borislav Pechnikov) - A Memory Book dedicated to 26,000 Red Army soldiers and officers who gave their lives on battlefields for the liberation of Austria was presented this Thursday at the Russian embassy in Vienna. Entitled "The Soviet graves of the second world war in Austria", it was written by the Austrian historian Peter Sixl.

"When you scan the book and see numerous tombs and graves, you shudder at the thought that so many our compatriots have lost their fathers, husbands, brothers and grandfathers there, that there is so much grief behind all this," Stanislav Osadchy, the Russian ambassador in Austria, said at the presentation.

Another speaker, Austrian Interior Minister Liese Prokop, noted: "Throwing a retrospect look at the last 60 years of peace, we should bear in mind what human victims and suffering underlie it and take upon ourselves to do everything possible to ensure peace for generations to come."

The book published by the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Research on War Consequences, contains extensive information and numerous photos on WWII Soviet burials in all nine federal lands of the Austrian republic.
