"We know Mayday as Working People's Solidarity Day, and it has a close bearing on efforts for employees' social and economic rights," he stressed.
The Federation Executive Committee has decreed Mayday labor action for wage rises and social welfare guarantees, with public rallies and demonstrations under the motto, "For dignified living standards".
Among basic labor demands, Mr. Shmakov highlighted threshold wages increased to the subsistence sum, and wage, pension and student grant rises. Trade union activists will also come up for back wages paid, and compulsory social insurance reinstated.
Public action is expected in 68 administrative centers of Russia's constituent entities, and more than 600 other towns-in particular, district centers, added Mr. Shmakov.
Labor activists from the city environs are to join Moscow action, which envisages a demonstration along Tverskaya Street, the city's main thoroughfare, with a public rally in Tverskaya Square, not far from the Kremlin.
