MOSCOW, April 30 (RIA Novosti) - The ceremony of launching fountains has taken place in Moscow's west in Poklonnaya Hill.
Yury Luzhkov, the Moscow mayor, gave a command to turn on all city fountains at 1 p.m.
"We are doing everything possible to make our city even more beautiful," said Luzhkov.
"Fountains are a decoration of the city. This is where couples can meet and discuss... how they can produce a new generation of Muscovites," said the mayor.
The ceremony is taking place for a ninth time. Over 200 fountains were turned on simultaneously, including the Vitali in Teatralnaya Square (downtown Moscow), the oldest in the city.
