MOSCOW, April 30 (RIA Novosti) - Combat engineers neutralized an explosive device 7 minutes before a possible explosion in Ufa (capital of Bashkortostan), a Bashkir Interior Ministry official said.
"If an explosion had taken place, the city's southern part would be totally de-energized," the official said on the phone.
The device was fastened to a high-voltage power transmission line. A janitor discovered it.
When law enforcement officers examined the bag with the device, they saw a canister with a silvery substance, with an electric detonator and wires and an alarm clock fastened to it. The time when the device was to have worked was indicated on it.
Later it was established that saltpeter was inside the canister.
Investigation is underway.
