RUSSIA HOSTS IV MOSCOW EASTER FESTIVAL FROM MAY 1 TILL MAY 11

MOSCOW, May 1 (RIA Novosti) - The 4th Moscow Easter Festival starts in the Russian capital on Sunday. Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov announced it would last from May 1 till May 11.

"It is an outstanding cultural event of 2005," he said.

This year's festival organized with the patronage of the Russian Federal Agency for Culture and Cinema and the Moscow City government is dedicated to the 60th Anniversary of the Great Victory.

Among the participants of the festival are world-famed performers and groups: the Mariinsky Theater Symphonic Orchestra (St. Petersburg) led by Valery Gergiyev, viola player Yuri Bashmet, violin player Nikolai Tsnaider and the Cologne Chamber Choir.

The participants of the festival will perform in the cities of the Urals region and Siberia: Yekaterinburg, Chelyabinsk, Khanty-Mansiisk, Tyumen, Omsk and the towns of the Russian Golden Ring.

During the Easter week, charity concerts will be held at Moscow State University, capital's hospitals, rehabilitation centers and veterans' homes.

More than 90 concerts are scheduled for the 11-day program in Moscow and other Russian cities.

The "Bell Week" performance will become one of the largest events of the festival.

The best bell-ringers from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Vologda, Yaroslavl and other Russian cities will conduct bell-ringing performances in historical districts of Moscow - Zaryadie and Kitai-Gorod.

The Grand Easter Bell-Sounds, combining the performance of bell-ringing at various Moscow churches in the center of the capital, will take place on May 9 honoring the Great Victory Day.
