MOSCOW, May 5 (RIA Novosti) - Almost ever second Russian - 47 percent - has a mobile telephone, the public opinion study holding ROMIR has said on Thursday on results of the poll held last April.
When the ROMIR began in February 2004 a set of polls on the use of mobile communication, only one in four of the polled could say he had a "mobile".
In cities of over one million people, 59 percent said they make use of mobile communication. Even in small Russian towns, more than a third of residents now have cellphones, seen as "luxury" a mere ten years back.
Noteworthily, the highest mobile coverage today involves not only business managers and top-skilled specialists but also higher school students.
The April poll covered 1,600 respondents aged from 18 years up in over 100 urban and rural populated places in Russia.
