"The modern factory, to be built with also Russian capital, will help arranging the manufacture of units for railway trains according to the European standards", the Russian Railways press service quotes Fadeev as telling the conference there.
As reported earlier, high-speed trains will be made at the Moscow Locomotive Repair Factory.
Fadeev recalled that last April the Russian Railways and Siemens signed the contract on the manufacture of high-speed trains in Russia. "The contract targets the maximal socio-economic effect for our country", Fadeev said.
The project turned into factory will, he said, make a prototype train as soon as by late 2007. Developing a speed of 300 kilometers/hour, the train is a brainchild of German and Russian specialists on order and statement of work from the Russian Railways. In all, 60 such trains will be manufactured under the project.
Towards that goal Siemens sets up a subsidiary in Russia. It will organize hi-tech production together with Russian partners and within five to six years maximally localize production, gradually increasing the share of Russian accessories in the train cost to 70 and more percent.
The Russian Railways has offered to Siemens a list of 69 Russian enterprises as potential makers of large units and equipment, Fadeev said. "It is an open list", he added. Competitions to select participants for the project of manufacturing high-speed rolling stock in Russia will be announced before long, Fadeev said.
"Upon completion of the project, already in 2008 Russia will enter the elite club of countries developing domestic high-speed railage and Russian engineers and researchers, relying on world-class attainments, will focus on projecting the next generations of rolling stock", Fadeev said.
