MOSCOW, May 8 (RIA Novosti) - Strategic partnership between Russia and China is in the best interest of both nations, PRC President Hu Jintao said at a ceremony at the Chinese Embassy in Moscow Sunday, with many WWII veterans in attendance.

Jintao is in the Russian capital along with other foreign leaders to take part in commemorations marking the 60th anniversary of the end of the Second World War in Europe.

"Russia and China should coordinate their efforts, working hand in hand for world peace," Jintao said. He then thanked the Soviet army for its contribution to the liberation of China from Japanese occupation during WWII. Many of the veterans invited to today's reception at the Chinese Embassy had taken part in battles in Manchuria, where Japan's mighty Kwantung army was deployed.

Sergei Razov, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, said, for his part, that both Russia and China wanted all of the world's nations to join hands in creating international security mechanisms.

"Lessons of the Second World War are relevant today as never before. They teach us to solve any international conflicts without resorting to military force. Russia and China are both urging the world community to make a concerted effort to create multilateral global mechanisms of international security, a fair and democratic world order," the Russian official pointed out.

Razov said he was hopeful that relying on their strategic partnership, Russia and China would make an appreciable contribution to the cause. According to him, today's reception at the Chinese Embassy in Moscow reflects a record-high level of bilateral relations.
