MOSCOW, May 11 (RIA Novosti) - The Russian Foreign Ministry said that the Latvian journalists on the Russian-Latvian border had been seized for unsanctioned video filming of the international border checkpoint in the Pskov region (Russia's northwest).

"It was pointed out to the Latvian journalists that their actions were illegitimate and it was proposed to them, in case of their further stay in the territory of the Russian Federation, to get registered in the duly established procedure. Upon the examination held, the journalists voluntarily left the Russian Federation on the same day," the ministry said.

On May 8, 2005 three Latvian journalists entered Russia from Latvia to cover the festivities of the 60th Victory anniversary in the Pskov region.

In the morning of May 9, the local police found they were carrying out unsanctioned video filming of the railway junction, which is an international border checkpoint. The journalists attempted to escape but were detained and taken to the immigration control post for giving explanations.

The Latvian journalists confessed they had no permission to film the facility.
