BRUSSELS, May 12 (RIA Novosti's Alexander Shishlo). European Socialists, the second largest faction in the European Parliament, have welcomed "road maps" toward four common spaces - Common Economic Space; Common Space of Freedom, Security and Justice; Common Space of Cooperation in the Field of External Security; and Common Space on Research, Education and Culture, - approved at the May 10 Russia-EU summit.
Deputy chairman of the European Socialists' factopm Jan Marius Wiersma says in his statement received by RIA Novosti that the agreements could promote significant progress in future economic relations between Russia and the European Union, including energy policy, and would strengthen joint anti-criminal and anti-terrorist efforts.
Wiersma writes that an agreement on the space of justice opened up fresh opportunities to continue and step up dialog on shared values. The MEP described this as a top priority in the future and called upon both sides to translate Moscow agreements into action.
