KIEV, May 12 (RIA Novosti) - Ukraine considers the plans of creating its own communication satellite, taking part in integrated European space projects and restoring its rocket-space industry.
As the press service of the Ukrainian President's secretariat reported, State Secretary Alexander Zinchenko spoke about this in Dniepropetrovsk on Wednesday, describing the priorities of the project of a new state program for the development of the rocket-space industry.
According to Mr. Zinchenko, the present program for the period of up to 2007 does not meet today's requirements.
Ukraine has every chance to re-acquire the status of a leading space state. For this purpose the country has the necessary technological and scientific basis, the Ukrainian state secretary said.
President Viktor Yushchenko, he continued, attaches special importance to intensive development of the space rocket-building industry, as a sphere of a strategic importance for the country.
In Dniepropetrovsk, Mr. Zinchenko visited the Yuzhny Machine-Building Plant and the Yuzhnoye Design Bureau.
The Sea Start international project, in which the Ukrainian-Russian Zenith rocket carrier is used, is being implemented with the participation of Ukraine.
