Additional possibilities to increase Russia's role in the settlement of not only the Palestinian-Israeli conflict but also the Mideastern conflict on the whole complying with Russia's interests in the Middle East emerged after President Vladimir Putin's visit to this region, Lavrov said.
Russia will strive for a more balanced approach to the settlement in Iraq.
"The situation in Iraq should not comply only with the US interests. The United States tends to assume responsibility but it needs support all the same," Lavrov stressed.
"We want the settlement principle to be more balanced," he added.
According to Sergei Lavrov, all political, ethnic and religious forces of the country should be involved in the Iraqi settlement.
Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Saltanov told RIA Novosti, in turn, that Russia and the European Union are cooperating to promote the Mideastern settlement, particularly, the Palestinian-Israeli settlement, as within the framework of the quartet (Russia, the US, EU and UN).
The sides hold regular bilateral consultations, Saltanov noted. "It helps us elaborate bilateral positions on the solution of this problem," he added.
