CHISINAU, May 17 (RIA Novosti, Vladimir Novosadyuk) - Russia does not think it necessary to add more Parties to the present-day five in the Transdniestria settlement negotiations, said Valery Nesterushkin, Russian Ambassador-at-Large, as quoted by Moldpres, Moldova's government news agency.

The diplomat made his statement by way of comment on a Ukrainian idea to involve the USA and the European Union in the talks. Meanwhile, Romania says it is also anxious to join the settlement cause.

"The Ukrainian plan is very general, and many questions arise on it. The Parties ought to get it under detailed discussion," said the Russian diplomat.

A contrasting opinion came from Valery Litskai, spokesman of the unrecognized Transdniestrian Republic in Moldova. He finds the Ukrainian idea extremely constructive, and hopes it will get the negotiations out of a deadlock they are in now. "It will be very beneficial to involve the USA and the EU in the talks, with their interesting ideas that deserve the utmost attention -- for instance, on guarantees and on monitoring the Transdniestrian area," he said.

Vasile Sova, Moldova's Reintegration Minister, also approved the Ukrainian proposal. Democratic reforms in the area come as principal prerequisite of Transdniestria settlement, he pointed out.

Moldova's parliament will quite soon pass a bill on the Transdniestria status, said the minister. "If the Ukrainian initiative finds implementation in its present form, the matter will demand Moldova's Constitution accordingly amended," he added.

Transdniestria settlement is within Ukraine's national interests, stressed Dmitry Tkach, Ukrainian Ambassador-at-Large.

Meanwhile, there are five negotiators on the Transdniestria settlement issue -- the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), Russia, Ukraine, Moldova and Transdniestria. Their spokesmen met for consultations in Vinnitsa, Ukraine, May 16-17. The latest previous consultations were held in January.
