ST. PETERSBURG TO HOST INTERNATIONAL NUCLEAR WORKERS' V-E MARATHON

ST. PETERSBURG, May 20 (RIA Novosti) - St. Petersburg and the enclosing Leningrad Region will host the Tenth International Marathon of Nuclear Industry Workers later today and on Saturday, the public relations department of the Leningradskaya Nuclear Power Plant told RIA Novosti.

According to the spokesman for the power plant, the V-E event starting in the plant's home town of Sosnovy Bor on the southern shore of the Gulf of Finland will bring together around 300 nuclear workers from Switzerland, Hungary, Germany, Ukraine, Vietnam, Iran, Spain, Belgium (Westinghouse Nuclear Power Plant), Lithuania (Ignalina NPP), France (La Ague nuclear reprocessing plant), Sweden (Ringhals and Forsmark NPPs), Bulgaria (Kozloduy NPP), and Romania (Cernavoda NPP). Russia will have four teams representing TVEL (nuclear power producer), Rosenergoatom (state-run nuclear operator), the Leningradskaya NPP, and Russian Atomic Energy Agency.

Starting off from the Leningradskaya NPP, the runners will go through the Lomonosov District of the region to the Oranienbaum Bridgehead-based war memorial to lay wreaths there. The first day's run, passing through the historical venue of Petergof, will end in the town of Gatchina.

On the second day, the runners will dart through St. Petersburg suburbs Pavlovsk and Pushkin to the Dvortsovaya Square in the center of the city to be welcomed by Alexander Rumyantsev, chief of the Federal Atomic Energy Agency, and Rosenergoatom CEO Sergei Antipov for an awards ceremony.
