MOSCOW, May 29 (RIA Novosti) - Anatoly Chubais, the head of RAO UES, the Russian state-owned energy monopoly, does not plan to resign from his current post. He made the announcement on Saturday, during the Zerkalo program broadcast on TV channel Russia.

"Do not expect me to do it. It will not happen," he answered the question posed by the host of the program.

Chubais pointed out that decisions on appointments and firing RAO UES heads are made by shareholders, in this case - the state.

Chubais' resignation became focus of discussion after a serious power failure on May 25. Due to power outage, southern districts of Moscow were left without electricity, water, and communications. Elevators, phones, cash machines, metro and streetlights were out of operation. Trains stopped and stock exchange operations were interrupted. The incident also created a blackout in the southern part of the Moscow region and several neighboring regions.

Heads of the leading political parties demanded Chubais' resignation. A working group on investigation of the May 25 power outage in Moscow and neighboring regions has been created in the State Duma (lower chamber of the Russian parliament).

The Prosecutor-General's office opened a criminal case in connection with the incident. Chubais, as head of RAO UES has been summoned for questioning.

"I am ready to answer all questions posed by the prosecutors or state officials," the RAO UES head said.
