MOSCOW, May 31 (RIA Novosti) - Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller met with the U.S. Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez on Tuesday.

They considered Gazprom cooperation with American companies in the liquefied natural gas technologies, expansion of the gasification capacities and LNG shipments to the American market.

Miller informed Gutierrez of Gazprom's selection of partners for supplying Russian LNG to the North American markets on the basis of the Shtokman gas condensate field.

Gutierrez said that the U.S. administration came out for the development of business cooperation between Gazprom and American energy companies on the U.S. market.

In 2005, Gazprom plans to begin swap LNG shipments to the American market: Russian gas shipments to Europe will be swapped for the LNG shipped by American companies to the United States.

In 2006-2009, swap shipments are planned to continue on the basis of average-term contracts with American companies. After 2010, direct shipment of Russian LNG to the United States on long-term contracts will begin.

American energy companies show much interest in cooperating with Gazprom in Russian LNG shipments to the U.S. market. Memorandums on mutual understanding have been signed with such American companies as ChevronTexaco, ConocoPhillips, ExxonMobil and Sempra Energy.
