TASHKENT, June 2 (RIA Novosti, Abu-Ali Niyazmatov) - Uzbekistan proposed to set up a working group of foreign diplomats accredited in Uzbek capital Tashkent to control measures aimed at the stability in Andizhan and the Andizhan region, Uzbek Foreign Minister Elyer Ganiyev said.
The working group may comprise representatives of the U.S., French, Russian, Chinese and other embassies, as well as diplomats from neighboring countries, the minister added.
"This proposal is explained by the necessity to carry out unbiased monitoring and control" and the expediency to involve "not only OSCE members but also the countries which are interested in regional stability," he said.
"These are our nearest neighbors and countries situated close to our region," Ganiyev said.
On May 13, insurgents seized a prison and a number of administrative buildings in Uzbekistan's fourth largest city Andizhan. Troops liberated the buildings later. According to official information, 170 people were killed in the turmoil.
