KRASNOYARSK (Central Siberia), June 4 (RIA Novosti, Lyudmila Zaitseva) - A Siberian rescue service evacuated two American travelers who intended to cover a route from Severnaya Zemlya (Northern Land), the island group in the Arctic Ocean, to the North Pole, and further on to Canada.

On June 3, two helicopters were sent to search for the travelers from the Dikson village, the north of Central Siberia. "The tourists were found at 10 p.m., taken aboard with all their possessions and outfits, and brought to the Golomyany island where a weather station is located," said a local official.

The tourists are in good condition.

They will be taken to the city of Norilsk as soon as possible, when the weather allows.

The Americans who were traveling on skis and in a canoe via the North Pole to Canada requested to evacuate them, reported the Siberian emergencies center.

The travelers got in touch with their coordinator a few days ago and said ice drifting from the opposite direction did not allow them to move on. They decided to cut their journey short as they were behind their schedule.

Adverse weather conditions did not allow the Siberian rescue service to start the evacuation immediately.
