"The necessity of interaction between the state and religious organizations is obvious," Torshin said at a roundtable on this issue on Wednesday.
According to him, today Russia has more church buildings than the Soviet Union had Communist Party offices in Soviet times.
"However, only religious organization can help the state solve the moral problems of Russian society," Torshin said.
Last year the number of suicides in Russia was higher than the number of murders, he added.
The state should use the power of religious organizations today," the vice speaker said.
Torshin expressed regret that interaction with religious organizations is not developed at the regional and local levels.
"Resources of interaction with religious organizations are not exhausted," he said.
