MOSCOW, June 8 (RIA Novosti) - Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov will fly to Brussels to attend a session of the Russia-NATO Council on June 9-10, the ministry said.

The council will discuss many issues of mutual interest, particularly, the situation in Uzbekistan, a source in the Defense Ministry told RIA Novosti.

International security issues, including the fight against proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, organized crime, drug trafficking, extremism and terrorism will be on the council's agenda.

The council will focus on the situation in Iraq and Afghanistan and NATO humanitarian assistance to Darfur, a Sudanese province embroiled in a long civil war.

According to the source, Russia may join this humanitarian project.

The council will also discuss operative compatibility of Russian and NATO forces and prospects of the European anti-missile defense system formation, he added.

Unfortunately, NATO does not want to involve Russia in this process and does not take our wishes into account, the source said.
