Moscow, June 10 (RIA Novosti) - Giacomo Puccinin's "Madama Butterfly" is on its way back onto the Bolshoi Theater's repertory after a long absence.

A Bob Wilson production of the famous opera opens at Moscow's flagship music theater on June 12. In the first three performances, the title part will be sung by Adina Nitescu. This Romanian soprano has won top prizes at a number of prestigious international vocal competitions, such as Singer of the World in Cardiff, Belvedere in Vienna, and the Luciano Pavarotti contest in Philadelphia. She has appeared on some of the world's major opera venues, including Milan's La Scala, Paris' Opera Bastille, New York's Metropolitan, and Berlin's Deutsche Oper.

Speaking to RIA after the dress rehearsal Friday, the Russian veteran opera singer Galina Vishnevskaya described "Madama Butterfly" as Puccini's most tender and most passionate opera and said that Wilson's production of it seemed more emotionally reserved than those she had appeared in.

The celebrated US stage director has made a strong impact on the world theater. He has received international acclaim for his interpretations of both opera and drama. "Madama Butterfly" is arguably one of Wilson's most successful productions. He has put it on for several theatrical companies across the world.

The opera was presented to the public for the very first time at Milan's La Scala in 1904, with the composer still alive.
