MOSCOW, June 16 (RIA Novosti) -The first power generating unit of the Balakovskaya nuclear power plant has been put into operation again after scheduled repair work.
The press service of the plant reported earlier that the first power unit, under repair since April 27, would be put into operation on June 17.
The Balakovskaya nuclear power plant is Russia's largest producer of electric power, which puts out over 28 billion kilowatt-hours annually. The plant accounts for one fourth of power energy production in the Volga federal district and one fifth of the whole country's output.
There are four power generating units equipped with VVER-2000 (WMPR - water-moderated power reactor) VVER-1000 reactors at the plant. The units were put into service in the late 1980s - early 1990s.
