A special extraordinary session of the Council of People's Deputies of the Kamchatka region (the Far East) will fix the date of a referendum against oil production on the Western Kamchatka shelf, the habitat of the Kamchatka crab and valuable fish. The referendum is to coincide with the poll on the unification of the Kamchatka district and the Koryak autonomous area (October 23).
