MOSCOW, June 22 (RIA Novosti) - Kazakh Foreign Minister Kasymzhomart Tokayev told journalists Wednesday that he did not consider the situation in Kyrgyzstan a threat to his country. "Living standards in Kyrgyzstan are different. Kazakhstan is going through reforms and the quality of life in our country is approaching the level of that in Eastern Europe," Tokayev said.

He said the current meeting of foreign ministers from Collective Security Treaty Organization member countries "is a scheduled meeting and not a direct response to the events [in Kyrgyzstan]."

Tokayev said that if similar events were to occur in another Central Asian country, "the organization will act in accordance with its Charter."

"If one of the member countries faces an external threat, we will conduct consultations to determine the course of joint actions. However, control over the internal situation in these countries is their own responsibility," Tokayev said.

Tajik Foreign Minister Talbak Nazarov said that his country does not have any current potential threats.

"We are not worried about it at all. Tajikistan does not have conditions pointing to any threats or challenges," Nazarov said. "The Tajik people have already experienced a similar situation [to that in Kyrgyzstan] and know what instability means."

Nazarov said his country's civil war from 1992 to 1997 killed 150,000 people.

However, Tajik authorities "closely monitor the situation in other countries" in connection with the events in Kyrgyzstan, Nazarov said.

Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan signed the Collective Security Treaty in May 1992.
