According to Sergei Korol, the deputy head of the Federal Agency for Physical Culture and Sports, the organization had set up a working group for the Turin Olympics headed by Vyacheslav Fetisov, the head of the agency. "We approaching the starting line, and will tackle all preparation issues," said Korol.
He said $1.33 million had been spent on medical equipment for the Russian Olympic team, and another $665,732 on sports gear.
However, Korol said the situation in winter sports was changing slowly, despite the increased funding. "Our main opponents are ahead of us in the number of medals and international titles," he said.
However, he praised the performance of the Russian Bobsleigh Federation. "We are cooperating with the International Federation, sponsors, and we also purchased equipment," Korol said. "And the result? Our four-man team won the World Cup. I hope they will vie for the top honors in Turin."
