LONDON, June 23 (RIA Novosti, Anna Bobina, Alexander Smotrov) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will arrive in London today for a meeting of G8 foreign ministers that will prepare documents for the July 6-8 summit of G8 leaders in Scotland.

The ministers will hold three sessions on three key subjects: the situation in Afghanistan, the Middle East peace process and Kosovo.

During a meeting with President Vladimir Putin and Russian government members on June 20, Lavrov said the Middle East Quartet (Russia, the United States, the EU and UN) would also meet in the British capital to discuss Israel's progress in withdrawing from the Gaza Strip as part of efforts to implement the "road map" peace plan.

In addition, Lavrov is also scheduled to meet with U.S. Secretary of State Condolezza Rice. They will discuss how presidential instructions issued during recent U.S. and Russian contacts are being fulfilled.

Russia's Ambassador to Great Britain Yury Fedotov told journalists that the minister would hold other meetings while he was in London. He added that the minister would attend a working breakfast with British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw and possibly the head of British Petroleum.

It has become a tradition over the last few years for G8 foreign ministers to meet before G8 summits, but documents adopted at their meetings are considered to be G8 documents.
