Moscow, June 23 (RIA Novosti) - The Russian oil company Yukos has settled two-thirds of its tax bill, Board Chairman Viktor Gerashchenko told at an annual shareholder meeting today.

The company has now paid off 407.4 billion rubles ($14.27 billion, or 11.71 billion) in back taxes for the past four years, so only 175.6 billion rubles ($6.15 billion, or 5.05 billion) remain due. Gerashchenko said the amount paid included the sale of Yukos' main production unit, Yuganskneftegaz, although he called the deal unlawful.
