First congress of Polish graduates of St. Petersburg universities held in Poland

LUBLIN (Poland), June 26 (RIA Novosti, Leonid Sviridov) - The first congress of Polish graduates of St. Petersburg universities was held yesterday in Lublin, Poland.

Graduates from St. Petersburg University, the Electro-technical university, Polytechnic university, the Medical institute, the Railroad Transport institute, the Agrarian university etc. now living and working in Warsaw, Wroclaw, Gdansk, Szczecin, and Bialystok took part in the congress.

Pro-rectors of three higher schools in St. Petersburg (former Leningrad) attended the forum as guests.

"We call ourselves Leningraders with pride, as this was an unforgettable part of my life. I received a higher education in Leningrad and got married here. Life in the last century was more funny," a professor from Gdansk, Wojciech Sadowski told RIA Novosti.

A top official from the Society of St. Petersburg Higher Schools' Graduates said the society's main aim was to "popularize Russian culture and science and maintain ties with their former educational establishments and research centers in St. Petersburg."

"We also intend to take part in developing Polish-Russian scientific topics and hold joint research, exchange high-school, higher-school and post-graduate students, and spread the achievements of modern Russian scientific thought," the official said.

According to professor Sergei Karmanenko, St. Petersburg Electro-technical university pro-rector, the Polish graduates' initiative is very important and useful and will strengthen Polish-Russian relations as well as scientific contacts.
