MOSCOW, June 29 (RIA Novosti, Olga Semyonova) - The participation of Rosoboronexport, Russia's state arms exporter, in the second International Naval Show opening in St. Petersburg Wednesday will strengthen Russia's positions on the naval equipment world market, a source said.

"We regard our participation in the show as the most important stage in the work to define new lines of development of our country's military technical cooperation with foreign partners," the Rosoboronexport spokesman said.

The source said Russia is a leader in world shipbuilding capable of building combat ships and auxiliary vessels of all types, and creating all kinds of naval armaments and technical means.

"The high level of scientific and shipbuilding development, production capacities, qualified personnel and great experience in foreign economic activity in this sphere allow our country to hold the leading positions among exporters of naval equipment and hardware," the source said.

He said Russia had exported more than 2,000 surface ships, submarines, patrol and missile boats for the last 50 years, outstripping the U.S., Britain, Germany and France.

The source said naval equipment's role had become more important lately, with 24% of all armament deliveries abroad falling on the naval element last year.

"This year, naval equipment is expected to occupy more than half of the volume of foreign deliveries," the source said.

More than 340 companies and organizations from about 30 countries will take part in the international show.
