"We have chosen the innovation road to economic development, and today's decision will show to what extent we are able to ensure progress for the selected economic course and its growth rates," said Fradkov, when opening a government session that considered the development of the state research sector.
The government session will seek to identify the focus of fundamental research conducted by the Russian Academy of Sciences, the role and the place of the organization, and ways of attracting private investment into science.
According to the premier, the Russian Academy of Sciences, and leading universities, ministries, and departments had carefully examined how innovation sector could be made more efficient.
"It is important to pool the efforts of everyone who is interested in innovative development," Fradkov said. According to him, Russia has substantial scientific potential, which makes it an advanced country.
