MOSCOW, July 3 (RIA Novosti) - The Russian, German and French leaders are set to discuss the development of the Kaliningrad region (the Russian exclave on the Baltic Sea) in the light of Russia-EU cooperation, UN reform and the upcoming G8 summit at a trilateral meeting today, the Russian presidential aide said.

Vladimir Putin, Gerhard Schroeder and Jacques Chirac will discuss "making and implementing joint decisions on the Kaliningrad region" and the remaining unresolved problems of passenger and cargo transit, Sergei Prikhodko said.

The leaders will also discuss "key issues of the G8 summit agenda and prospects of G8 work," he added.

Russia which assumes the G8 presidency in 2006 is interested in the German and French experience in this field, the aide said.

Varied approaches to key modern problems, countering new threats and challenges and crises settlement are among priorities of the Russian-French-German interaction, Prikhodko said.

Accordingly, Putin, Schroeder and Chirac "are to discuss non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, the Iranian nuclear program, the situation in Iraq, the Middle East settlement and situation in other hotspots," he concluded.
