SVETLOGORSK (Kaliningrad region), July 3 (RIA Novosti) - Russian President Vladimir Putin told French President Jacques Chirac and German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder that he was happy to welcome them in Russia's westernmost region and to discuss Russia-EU relations with them.
Chirac and Schroeder came to Kaliningrad at Putin's invitation to mark the 750th anniversary of the exclave's founding.
"We can discuss further steps to promote bilateral relations, as well as the Russian relations with the EU," Putin said.
"It is very important to hear your opinions on Russia's relations with the European Union in light of the recent events connected with the European Constitution," he added.
Putin expressed hope that the talks will be held in the general holiday atmosphere following the official celebrations of Kaliningrad's anniversary.
Putin also proposed his counterparts to discuss UN reform, the Middle East developments, the situation in Iran and the North Korean problem.
