MOSCOW, July 4 (RIA Novosti) - Moscow has an advantage over the other four cities vying to host the 2012-Olympics because the selection of Moscow would be an historic event, the mayor of the Russian capital said Monday.
With only two days remaining before the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announces who will host the 2012 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games, Mayor Yury Luzhkov arrived in Singapore to attend the crucial 117th IOC session. Luzhkov drew a parallel between the selection of Beijing as host city for the 2008 Games and the possible selection of Moscow for the 2012-Olympics.
He said Moscow was very optimistic because the Olympic Games could change the future of people, cities and nations. Luzhkov continued that while the IOC members were preparing to make a final decision this Wednesday, the Moscow delegation was confident that they would decide that only one nation and one city would change drastically after hosting the Olympics
Paris, London, Madrid and New York are also bidding for the right to host the Games.
