MOSCOW, July 12 (RIA Novosti, Anna Malakhina, Mikhail Turgiyev) - The Moscow Metro (subway) is introducing new technologies to ensure passenger security, the subway's head told RIA Novosti Tuesday.
Dmitry Gayev said: "This year 1.4 billion rubles ($49 million) have been allocated for anti-terrorist measures in the subway."
He said most of the money would be spent on creating a radio communication system, which is virtually non-existent at the moment. In addition, he said seven subway lines would be provided with alarm buttons.
Gayev continued that the third major area for spending would be a system to establish a television signal to a crisis center on several lines.
According to the subway's press service, the crisis center tracks passenger traffic, trains, and the support system for the subway.
Gayev said every car on the ring line would be equipped with a camera relaying real time images to duty officers next year.
