On Tuesday, traffic controllers from the united air traffic control service failed to follow military orders to expel the Vietnam Airlines commercial Boeing 777 jet from Russia's air space. Air defense bodies said the plane was an intruder.
According to ministry officials, the plane had been in the air for more than seven hours and had little fuel onboard when the air traffic controllers received the military order. After evaluating its flight status, identification and security risks, civilian traffic controllers allowed the plane to land at Domodedovo airport outside Moscow.
This is the third time in two months that a Vietnam Airlines plane has violated Russian airspace. The other incidents occurred on June 26 and July 4.
The officials said civilian and military traffic controllers managed to handle the situations.
